Moko is an eclectic shop located on Gandy Street, Exeter. They stock everything from quirky gifts to jewellery and homewares. We spoke to Jo who took over the shop a few years ago to talk all things fashion, life and Toolally!
Q. Tell us the story behind Moko, how did it all start?
A. Moko has been trading successfully in Exeter for over 20 years. It was always my go to shop for something that little bit different. Three years ago I heard the owners were looking to retire, I instantly saw it was too good of an opportunity to miss. It was a bit of a leap of faith as I have no experience in retail but I’ve not looked back once and love every minute of it.
Moko has been described as a big hug of a shop. Our team are like a family, they are truly passionate about the shop, it’s stock and giving our customers the best service possible. It’s a joy to be part of it.
Q. What do you like to do in your free time?
A gentle walk in Devon and stopping off at one of the many wonderful pubs.
Q. Three things you can’t live without?
A strong cup of tea first thing in the morning, family and Wolfie our dog.
Q. What are your wardrobe staples for this season?
A. My ‘A Postcard from Brighton’, it’s so comfy and layers so well.
Q. Favourite thing about working in fashion?
A. It’s so much fun – I love how one piece can change your look, whatever your age.
Q. What is your favourite account to follow on Instagram right now?
A. Look Fabulous Forever, proof that a good accessory and lipstick is all you need. But for smiles it has to be @sausagedoghotel.
Q. Favourite trend/fashion era?
A. I’d like to say 60s but I seem to channel 80s goth!
Q. What’s for dinner tonight?
A. Puttanesca – heavy on the garlic.
Q. Favourite pair of Toolallys?
A. This is a hard one as I’ve quite a collection. My go to are my black Ellipses, but today I’m wearing Abstract Diamonds in chilli red and grey.
